The Spooktacular Display at Longwood Gardens
Updated: 1 hour ago
Longwood Gardens is one of the premier gardens that we have ever visited. We have been pass holding members for a very long time and once again joined and are never disappointed. This trip to Longwood featured the Spooktacular Fountain Show that is a snchronized nighttime display of fountains, lights, and music. The music for this particulare exhibition was Halloween classics and other spooky songs.

Longwood Gardens
Longwood is simply amazing. There is no going once and thinking you have seen all that the location has to offer. We were pass holders for years and were treated to new seasonal displays, something new being planted all the time, and festivals and shows that are always changing. We let our membership lapse to focus on national parks for a year or two and just renewed our membership for $210/year. Upon arriving we felt familiar with the location and the buildings but were immersed in new just the same. Every season is different and the gardens draw visitors in droves for everythig they offer. At more than 1,100 acres of current site they are on of the most visited gardens in the United States. Starting from the mind of Pierre du Pont, Longwood Gardens has grown and changed every year to more and more of a wonder that the whole family can enjoy.
The Spooktacular Fountain Show
October and Halloween inspired the gardens put on quite a good show. It wasn't our first fountain show but with new music and snychronizations it is always new everytime we visit. Songs like "This is Halloween from Nightmare Before Christmas", "Strange by The Doors", "Thriller by Michael Jackson", and so many others is was great. It wasn't taht cold out that evening so Kasey and I carried in a couple folding chairs we often use for our bike trips and a blanket. We sat found a sit on the upper terrace and waited for the show talking. There is tons of seating between the actual grounds down near the fountains, the terrace and even closer for those who want some real immersion. The lights and music are synched very well and they even incoporate flames into the water.
The gardens around the park were bright and brilliant weh n we first arrived with fall foliage and colors. The staff was busy planting the tulip bulbs for the spring tulip displays which are always beyond belief. Most of the display around the grounds are sparse focusing on the fall and and colors. it is much of an in between time for the greater grounds, shifting between summer to fall and ramping up for the christmas displays and lights that draw massive crowds every single year. But the whole place had changed so much in our absence from going and being pass holders for a year that we were pleasantly surprised none the less with eveything they have been up to at Longwood.
Chrysanthemum Festival
In addition to the night time Spooktacular Fountain Show, Longwood Gardens also had their Chrysanthemum Festival going on and it was stunning inside the main conservatory.

These displays they provide visitors at Longwood Gardens are ever changing and take so much time and effort to maintain. They work extremely hard bringing these displays to life and curating everything making it exceptional for all the seasons as they switch out overall displays and are constantly dreaming up new things for people to see and experience. The conservatory and their new addition the glass windowed conservatory are worth the price of admission alone. But there is so much more to see.

This was the first visit we have been in all our years where we got to go inside the bonsai shop where they care for and train their many bonsai displays. It was an amazing and gorgeous facility in its simplicity and rustic design while keeping much of the original architecture and structure of the building.

Conclusion
The Spooktacular Fountain show was amazing and fun to watch sitting with Kasey in our chairs snuggled up in our blanket and we had a great time. The crowds were surprisingly lighter than we have seen for these types of shows. We just decided to take the trek a bit early to see the grounds and conservatories prior to the show while there was still some daylight and were definitely not disappointed. We have many more trips to talk about concerning Longwood Gardens, and other Escapades we have been on where we just popped in for a visit. We highly encourage you to check it out even if just once, but know that it will always be so much different every single season or time you visit.
